Grace company. The Jones New York label was started in 1970 as a line of contemporary women’s separates. It was managed by Sidney Kimmel with Rena Rowan as head designer. In 1975 Kimmel bought the label from Grace and established the Jones Apparel Group. Through the 1970s and 1980s Jones New York grew to be a major producer of ladies’ wear, specializing in separates and career clothing. Rena Rowan designed at Jones New York and was a vice president in the company until her retirement in 2000.
